Statement of Faith
We believe:
These are the basic beliefs we hold as conservative evangelical Christians. In this statement, we share our basic view of the Scripture.
The Holy Bible, consisting of thirty-nine books in the Old Testament and twenty-seven books in the New Testament, is complete and authoritative. Divinely inspired men wrote it, which is inerrant in its original autograph. It is the record of God’s revelation of Himself to people. The Bible is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and daily living and is the standard by which all other teaching is measured.
There is only one true living God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Our God is a divine mystery—one God revealed in three persons. God is omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent, and sovereign.
God, our Heavenly Father, reigns over all creation and history according to His good purpose. God adopts us as His children, who come to Him through faith in Jesus Christ as Savior.
Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God and is fully God. In His incarnation, He was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, and fully human. He lived a sinless life and honored God the Father by His obedience and atoning death on the cross as the perfect, complete sacrifice for sin. He was raised from the dead, appeared to many, including His disciples, ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father. He will return in power and glory to judge the world and gather the redeemed to Himself.
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God. Through the Holy Spirit, godly men were inspired to write the Scriptures. He enables us to understand truth and Scripture. He convicts people of sin, righteousness, and judgment. He calls people to salvation through Jesus Christ, and effects regeneration. His presence in Christian lives is the assurance of God’s work to bring the believer into the fullness of Christ. He enlightens and empowers believers and the church in worship and service.
We believe in the existence of Satan, an angel who stood against God and was cast out of heaven with his demons. It is Satan’s desire and goal to destroy men by keeping them from a relationship with God and to take them with him to everlasting punishment. Satan tempts man to disobey God and harasses believers. Satan’s fate has been established and recorded in Scripture, that he will be cast into the lake of fire for eternity with those whose names are not in the Book of Life.
We believe that man is sinful and has fallen short of God’s standard. Our sinful nature separates us from God except by the atoning power of Jesus Christ.
We believe that salvation is freely offered to all, but belongs to those who accept Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, not by works or any other means. Salvation involves the redemption of the whole person.
Regeneration is the work of God’s grace by which believers become new creations. It is the change of heart that the Holy Spirit generates through the conviction of sin. The sinner responds to conviction with repentance by faith and accepts Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
Sanctification is the experience of being set apart for God’s purpose. Through the sanctification process, the believer grows spiritually and morally through the presence and power of the Holy Spirit.
Glorification is the result of the resurrection of Christ. It is the perfection that God provides in the resurrection when Christ returns.
