Pandemic Blessing: Canned Chicken
But who am I, and who are my people,
That we should be able to offer so willingly as this?
For all things come from You,
And of Your own we have given You.
1 Chronicles 29:14 NKJV
During the Covid-19 Pandemic, my husband and I could see shortages begin with cleaning products, personal protection, food, and hand sanitizer. We slowly stocked up as fear heightened around the country. Now, keep in mind, we didn’t hoard, but we stocked up sensibly, leaving some of these products on the store shelves for others who needed them. Several weeks into the Pandemic, we discovered two packs of canned chicken at a local home improvement-general store as the restrictions on travel and shopping relaxed. What an unlikely place for groceries! We bought three or four of these two packs for emergencies, adding to our fruit and vegetable emergency stash. These cans of chicken cost less than one in the regular grocery store and gluten-free at that, which we both needed. Eventually, we acquired a small supply in our pantry.
I noticed one day, as we used some of our stash from time to time, the store marked this chicken down in price. We bought a few more cans over a month until it was gone. Indeed, we weren’t the only people who bought these for their Pandemic emergency stash. We ate some of them off and on as the Covid-19 mandates wore on.
Finally, vaccines became available for us, but we had to drive a considerable distance to get the two-dose shots. We got both of ours according to the schedule. The pharmacists administering these shots told us to give them two weeks for complete immunity. One day, I went to our pantry to pull out one can for a quick fix meal. Only four cans left. The store no longer stocked them. As my husband and I talked over our dinner, we realized God provided precisely how much we needed when we needed it.
Do you worry about having enough of what you need? Trust that God will give you exactly what you need when you need it. You will have no reason to hoard supplies or refrain from sharing with others. Share what is already God’s because he will supply all your needs according to His great riches in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19).
Prayer: Dear God, thank you for taking care of us. I appreciate how you have given us everything we need. Please, help me trust you and accept that you also provide for others as well. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Many blessings to you!
